The exact number of used M4K blocks can be seen in the Compilation Report -> Fitter -> Resource Section -> Resource Usage Summary ( look for M4Ks or Total block memory implementation bits).

You could probably easily fit the whole de1_boot.bin inside the free space :)

Ah, ok. According to that i have used 44 of 105 M4Ks. So yes, please send me the file for embedding the io controllers firmware into the fpga. Also some small instructions how to use it would be fine. And i assume i have to modify the firmware to make it not copy itself to sram as that doesn't make too much sense when using internal memory.

Is anyone of you running his minimig at 8MHz? Increasing the system clock by 10% should result in a vga compatible pal mode while only adding some minor shift to e.g. the audio frequencies. I have the problem that none of two screens on my lab table displays the pal mode nicely.

BTW: MMrobinsonb5, your board imho only has a 50MHz clock. Do you generate the amiga clock from that as well? Is there a clock you guys would like to have which can't easily be generated by pll?

I just use a PLL to general 113.5MHz, which is the speed at which the SDRAM runs. That divides down to 7.09375 - which I figured was close enough. The Chameleon core has an 8MHz base clock, from which it uses a PLL to general 113.4545... MHz.

I think any discrepancy between those frequencies and the "real" Amiga frequencies should be small enough to be negligible.

Overclocking the Amiga to make the screen displayable on modern monitors is an interesting idea though - might well be worth exploring :)

I just created a core running at 32Mhz (27Mhtz * 29 / 27 to be exact) and my picky screens are happy with the 57hz 800x600 pal mode :-)

Awesome work!

So which core did you use as your base, and do any other parts of it object to running at that speed?

I wouldn't call that "awesome", all i did was to change the pll settings.

I used tobiflexx old de2 build. The memory now runs at 130Mhz which doesn't seem to be a problem as device ran settlers half the evening without any problems.

Master of Gizmo: Is the speed increase noticable in games?

Hmmm, interesting. Does that version of the core use SDRAM burst accesses? Tobiflexx's last DE1 build didn't if memory serves.

I was asking because I'm having stability problems with the Chameleon core (and my own port of it to the C3 board, and also with the TG68MiniSOC project even on the DE1 when the frequency goes much above 100MHz). I think (hope!) it's just down to the lack of timing constraints, but I'm not 100% sure.

It's built from his last de1/de2 sources, so it's pretty likely identical to the de1 build you are referring to.

Ah OK - I thought there was a later release for the DE2 somewhere along the line, that wasn't released for the DE1 due to it not fitting - but maybe it was only planned, and not actually released?

Anyhow, thanks for the info.

I don't know. I have probably not found all the releases.
