But I don't really have an 1541, so I think I'll wait for an FPGA64 core port to Altera DE1 or Minimig with D64 loading from SD. Do you think that's possible? I believe people at pacedev.net are working on that (for the DE1 at least)

At least with the ARM board this is more possible then it was with PIC. But still its a tricky thing to combine OSD and 1541 handling into FPGA64 porting. The FPGA is nearly filled until now and the ARM firmware has to be adapted/expanded to act for the FPGA64 internal floppy drive.
Its nice to see the FPGA64 port work on Minimig pcb but is only some coproduct of low priority (to me).

Hello,

I have the 1541 emulation working on the MCC card. The FPGA used is 3x to 4x the size of the minimig one.
The VHDL implementation is 100% compatible with the real one : for example, a game with a fastloader like Summer Games II works without problem.
The implementation quite straitforward : a D64 image is loaded from the SD-Card and encoded in GCR into the SDRAM. I have a T65 VHDL core for the 6502, the 6522 core from the VIC-20, 2KB of block RAM for the buffers, 16KB of block ROM for the firmware and a little bit of logic for the floppy disk interface (track counter, bit rate counter, sync word detection, byte ready signal, DMA interface for the floppy image in SDRAM), the logic can be easily created by analyzing the VIC-1541 schematics.

Regards,

Frederic

Hello Frederic,

would you give out the sources so that someone can port it to another FPGA Board. i.e DE1 ?

Dirk

frenchshark - are only d64-files allowed or can single-file-games also be loaded when they saved to the sd-card as prg or p00 files?
on the pc, with ccs64 or vice, i only use d64-format for games who have more then one file. all others are prg`s. they are smaller and loads faster.

@frenchshark & @Dirk: a DE1 port would be a dream made reality... I second that source code petition! :D

P00 files are already supported : this is what the demos on youtube show. From the boot menu, I can select the game I want. Then, I used some VHDL tricks to make it start automatically. The loading of the game is fast : the full game loads in less than a second.

I hope I can publish some source once I start selling the MCC card.
Right now, I am working on putting SDHC and LFN support. I wanted to implement 4-bit SDIO but it is a lot of work. IMHO, with a SPI controller designed for SD-Card and supporting DMA, I can reach 2MB/s.

Regards,

Frederic

It is OK so far. Unfortunately I've lost the working source code, a working binary with IEC bus on Spare-I/O is existing. Due to unclear copyright issue I can't and won't make it public, sorry.

The lost fpga64 sourcecode is now in your inbox :-) Hope this helps.

Hm nothing to find anywhere.
btw: how could you backup my lost sources? ;)

I sent the sources to your arcos account. Not sure if you still us this, so I'll send it to you here aswell in a PM.

January 26th we discussed some verilog stuff and i had a look at the fpga64 sources you were working on. I've been away from this site for about 6 months -- but here the other day I fired up my minimig and did a catchup of the minimig.net site and read in a post from you in february (?) that you had lost your sources. So I hope that you'll be glad to see them again :-)

Best regs,
Espen
