Actually it only occour at ADF read of illegal track (outside 0 to 79 range).

Some SDHC card (firmware) seems to have a problem with slow SPI (8MHz) access speed.
In a1k.org forum this happened and the SPI mod + activated Fast-SPI mode (up to 24MHz) in ARM firmware solved the problem. In this case the HC card was not detected at all.

Possible it will help here too.

The error is shown in OSD frame. The SDHC card is Transcend 4GB one, which seems to work for other stuff than the hard file. I have SPI mod and it activated in ARM firmware.

Maybe I need to get another SD card and try with it.

Update.. Tried Kingston 4GB SDHC and of course it worked just fine.

That`s what i told you. It was the same problem that i had with some kind of SD-Cards. adf`s seems to work on all SD-Cards, but hdf`s not.

Strange, I have many SD-Card in use, also a 4GB and 8GB SDHC one.
This kind of OSD error message never occur here while accessing HDF.

Of course it could be, if the card act different and ARM firmware interprete an (timing) error as a faulty ADF track access. Still its unusual and should be reviewed.

Glad to see this hdf. A complete hdf would be perfect for the minimig. I just love to open this little miracle and have a nice UI to play all the games I loved so many years ago, or discover new games that never played before!

I will start testing today and report back.

Just wondered if someone could make a small HDF for me that would run on a 1,1 with 4meg ram but without ARM !

A hundred megabyte file or so ?

I tried to transfer a hdf, to partition and prepare on the MiniMig, but the menusystem didnt find it at all ..

Hardfile need .HDF extension to be found by OSD.

I will try to copy all necessary data to a smaller (100MB) hardfile but PIC will stay quite slow.

I have an 80MB hardfile setup on my 2MB mimimig with the PIC chip and after turning on the directory cache option when formating the partition it is quite usable and probably comparable to the speed of my first 2.5" 80MB harddisk supplied with my A1200 when it was new. So no speed demon and a lot slower than modern harddisks even when used on a classic Amiga or the ARM controller on my 4MB minimig but faster than floppy disk.

So worth while for playing a few games like Civilization, Colonization, Eye of the Beholder, the settlers and even Beneath a Steal Sky from harddisk you just need remember to keep the partition size small and only install a few games that really benefit from HD install plus using a light weight distro such as BetterWB or just a standard workbench 3.1 install as making the most of a small hardfile as making the size larger really has a large negative speed impact.

There is also nothing to stop you having more than 1 hardfile on your SD card and swapping between them if you want to have more software installed than your small hardfile will allow.

Yep but we do not believe until we try ourselves :D

I got myself another 8GB Kingston SDHC and hardfiles work just fine. On a bit slow side though.. How long does it take for you guys to boot up the hF2.hdf file with normal 68k CPU speed setting?

A long time ;)
To be honest, I almost use Turbo mode while operation with HDF.
In this case Minimig is more like a workstation than a game/demo machine to me.

The ClassicWB image load a few program and use 8 color in Workbench, this will slow down the whole thing.
A neat WB3.1 installation will boot-up much faster.
