Hey there,

I've tried all sorts, however no go.
Can't get an Amiga working, which is mad considering that is the indended purpose of the unit.
I can however get alternate cores working ok, etc.
-I've searched the forum, etc. and oddly cannot find a straight-forward guide.
-I'm technical, but lost the will to live with it at the mo!

I have a 4Mb v1.1 unit.

So, I need the exact steps needed to get an Amiga 500 working for example.

Any help is most appreciated,
Cheers,
DaveO.

What happen if you use the latest "Minimig1.bin" FPGA core file out of this thread?
If your PIC or ARM controller has the latest 100818 firmware in its Flashrom, the core should work.

You will also need a Kickstart ROM image named KICK.ROM stored in sd-card root folder.
This image must not be encrypted and able to work with a 68000 cpu!

Thx Boing4000 - sorry don't know your real name!

Yeah, I put the minimig1.bin core and kick.rom on the sdcard - still no go.
Is there any other files needed, and what should I see once it works?

Maybe I need re-flash the Pic, however I would not think this should be needed.
-I'll try again, and give you the codes/vers I see on the screen if it fails.

Big thanks for any help,
Cheers,
DaveO.

Please describe what is to see on the Screen after starting Minimig with the linked core.
At least a blue background should appear.
Even with the oldest PIC (or ARM) Firmware should be able to load this core and show some picture.
Or the DRIVE LED will show any blink-error code.

To use FPGA release 100818 and newer, the MCU (PIC or ARM) need the 100818 firmware.
Any older should show a red screen with "Incompatible MCU version" after Core load or the bootloader will freeze at Agnus type detection.

Hi all and boing4000,

With the FPGA release 131020, I get a red screen as follows:-
BYQ100413
FSB131020
Angus = $20 Denise=$FF

Incompatible MCU firmware.

However, with a different core/minimig1.bin I get a 'blue screen', however the 'menu' button still does not do anything...
Any tips? As I would not expect to have to flash the PIC chip, however if that is what I must do, please give me the exact steps, as searching on the forum does not give me the answers so far.

How do I find the version of flashcode on the Pic Chip?
-If so, surely all I need is a compatible 'core' and the Amiga part will work?
-As I can get other cores working (Frogger, etc.), just not the Amiga part.

BTW, the jumper is set to 'fpga'. Is that correct for Amiga operation?

I do have the non-encrypted Kick.rom, however I do not think it even gets that far as not even the hardware menu button or keyboard seem to have and effect.

Please help me, as I have spend hours and hours and getting nowhere.... :-(

-I should not have to shell out for an 'Arm' controller, I would expect this unit to work, else I may as well sell it and buy something that works. :-(

Any help is most appreciated,
David.

Clear case: Your PIC firmware is too old.

Flashing the PIC is a bit tricky and will need some "setup".
At first, set the jumper to MCU to make PIC "talk" to the RS232 port.

Next would be the required "tiny bootloader" software.
This is available for Windows, Linux and even AmigaOS.
Also you will need a null-modem (cross-over) serial cable and another computer with a serial COM port.

The PIC must have the "tiny bootloader" counterpart in its flashrom to connect to the software part and allowing the flash update.
Handling of the software is to find on the internet (use google).

To find the required files, take a look at this link.
Your file would be the "PGL100818.zip".
If necessary, I can translate the german text into english.

Hi all,

Ok, finally found a null-modem lead, so will give this Pic flashing a go.
:-)

Cheers,
DaveO.

It will work and the good thing is: PIC is unable to brick.
The internal tiny-bootloader can not be erased at this way.

The only "critical" thing is the timing between starting update and PIC start.
On Software side, the timeout is about 5 sec. and PIC will only wayt 1 sec. after a PGM_RESET or power-up.

Ok, so managed to flash the pic! :-) I will post my write-up later.
Worked fine, and now I can get the Amiga to start up. :-)

Just cannot get the mouse or keyboard to work for some reason...
Using a normal mouse and keyboard with PS/2 to USB adapters.. - any tips/suggestions appreciated.

Cheers,
DaveO.
