So at last, after first doing it with RPi/RPi2, then Bluetooth, I landed on RPi Zero, so now my MIST always has its companion login server built into its case, pulling power from the very same power switch. I use a wifi dongle on the USB port of the Zero, and rarely bother to eject the SD card of the MIST anymore. Most of the time, the files being uploaded and downloaded are small enough that shutting down the MIST, moving the SD card to a different computer etc is just too much hassle over simply using zmodem. That said, I really wish serial port could be operated reliably at higher baud rates that 57600 :)

File comment: The power line for the Pi Zero, a probe clip to the 5V input line of the MIST, so both systems turn on/off by the switch. The hole for the Pi USB.

I forgot to mention, the Zero is attached on top of the SD card slot of the MIST, just using some bluetack puddy. Some more pics...

File comment: Doing the mail thing like it's 1995 - well, actually, this is how I normally read my mail on all platforms, and have been since at least 1995.

File comment: Downloading a large file to the MIST from Aminet, using adt (aminet download tool), over zmodem in Term 4.8.

How do you set up the Raspberry Pi. Are you using anything on the AMiga side other than term?

Yes, sure, the Pi is just running regular raspian.

I also run Roadshow TCP stack on the MIST, with the Zero acting as NAT router (pppd + iptables for NAT masquerading), ntp server etc. So... AmIRC, AWeb etc works fine.
